Douglas R. Barkley, M.S., P.E.

Founder and President

Douglas R. Barkley, M.S., P.E. Mr. Barkley founded Barkley Consulting Engineers, Inc. in 1996. Over the past 19 years, he has taken a one-man engineering shop to become one of the largest non-DOT structural firms in North Florida.

He has extensive structural engineering experience with a wide range of materials including but not limited to steel, cold-formed steel, masonry, wood, concrete, and construction methods such as lift slab, tunnel form, steel frame, tilt up and specialized areas such as deep foundations, post tension slabs, and special needs shelters. His firm has designed structures from wood frame houses to 12-story condominiums in high wind zones.

Mr. Barkley is also heavily involved with the FAMU/FSU College of Engineering as Chairman of the Civil Department Advisory Board and the Senior Capstone Course. His involvement with the students led to his receiving the National Mentor of the Year Award from the National Society of Professional Engineers in 2008. In 2009, the firm was awarded the Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers Professional Development Award.
